A large percentage of students suffer from exam stress around the whole globe and end up doing very bad in their tests. This may be caused by many reasons like low confidence, improper revision, starting preparation late, parental pressure etc. And due to this exam stress, many students tend to do very absurd and unnecessary actions like cheating, not going to examination hall, faking fever or any other disease and in the worst case, SUICIDE!!!
And in today’s reality if you mess up your major exams due to exam stress, like college examinations then my friend, you would lack the boost a good college will provide in your career. ( NOTE: I am not saying that college will decide your future because there are many successful people who have not gone to a college or a “good” college like Jack Ma, Ritesh Agarwal etc.)
Some facts
Here are some stats which are a result of exam stress that will make you understand the deepness of this pandemic of exam stress.
- Data published by the National Crime Records Bureau in 2016 reveals that 2,646 students committed suicide in 2015 in India due to “failure in examination”.
- Around 500 Japanese students below the age of 20 kill themselves each year. Every September 1 (or the start of the school year), the teen suicide rate tends to occur three times higher compared to any other day.

TIPS TO ELIMINATE EXAM-STRESS( WHICH WORKED FOR ME) –
- DISTRIBUTE YOUR SYLLABUS– I think you may have heard this from a lot of people and it is true to a great extent. All you have to do is first analyse your syllabus and distribute it equally among the prep days. e.g- If there are 12 chapters coming in my exams and 7 days are left. In this case, I will first learn all these chapters within 6 days(2 chapters daily) and on the last day I will do the revision of all my chapters .This will surely reduce your burden of studies.
- START EARLY– See if you will start learning chapters a month before exams it will surely give you enough time every day to do pleasure activities or doing our hobbies.(Pro tip- Start learning easier chapters first and harder ones at last so that you remember them till exams. I am saying this entirely from experience.)
- DOING MEDITATION – By doing this every morning or evening I bet you would feel refreshed every time you do it as it gets your stress levels at almost 0. As it eliminates all the negative thoughts and greatly improves your focus.
- DOING PROPER REVISION– See if you do this for proper number of times it would work greatly but if you do over dosage of this you will only increase your stress levels and not decrease it!!!(2-3 times is okay) Now, some may ask that what is this “good revision”. Let me help, a “good revision” means that you go through the notes of your subject thoroughly.
- TAKE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF BREAKS – This is very vital if you don’t want to take stress. See, if you will take breaks during your studies, then you will keep yourself entertained and spirited even while studying. And if you are entertained or happy, there will be no stress. Now, this break can be anything depending on your mood. Like playing a game, watching TV, a little chat with friends etc. Although note that this break doesn’t exceed 30 minutes,
- PLAYING SPORTS – Trust me on this one it really works and I did even during my final exams which I think many Indian nerds or just nerds would find inappropriate to do but you know what , every time i got back from sports I was more than ever motivated to study as I felt very positive. This all actually happens because of endorphins which our body releases while playing outdoor sports .
- DON’T SACRIFICE SLEEP – Sleep is just so important thing for having great exams. Studies have shown that having good sleep helps in remembering things you learnt yesterday. And if you will remember everything, you will be confident. As a result, you won’t have stress about remembering anything. But you know, many youtubers and “influencers” of the education domain tell the students to sleep less and they try to prove it by doing deadly calculations that “how much days will you save if you sleep just 4 hours ? “. But, DON’T LISTEN TO THEM!! These tips will mess you up. Here is a a post which will help you fully understand that why is sleep important.
So these are my tips during my prep days of exams which helped me cope with stress.
Hope these work for you like they did for me .
