See, we all have those end procrastination thoughts which we never act upon.
And we all have those have procrastination moments when we think that -” Bruh, I think that I will do this thing (it can be anything like starting your studies, homework, or some other work) later, let’s just do something else now.” And then you waste a couple of hours surfing on the internet watching senseless stuff or on any OTT platform watching a boring web series and then at the last moment, suffer from stress or intense last-minute pressure. And all this just because of a bad habit of yours, PROCRASTINATION!!!!
Let me bring up some shocking facts about procrastination from solvingprocrastination.com, which will help you understand how worse is this problem of procrastination –
- Studies show that approximately 80%–95% of college students engage in procrastination to some degree. Approximately 70% consider themselves to be procrastinators. And approximately 50% say that they procrastinate in a consistent and problematic manner.
- When it comes to procrastinating using the internet in specific domains, people procrastinated the most when they were home .(57% of the time, amounting to 1.12 hours on average out of 1.96 hours spent on the internet) Then at school (40% of the time, amounting to 0.26 hours out of 0.65) and finally at work (32% of the time, amounting to 0.24 hours out of 0.75).

But HEY! we are here to discuss how to stop it. See even I used to procrastinate a lot earlier, but then afterward I didn’t procrastinate at all by following some tricks. And to know these “tricks”, read the whole post thoroughly.
First, let’s understand what causes us to do it and then I will point out some points to prevent or stop it.
CAUSES-
- WHEN WE WAIT FOR JUST THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES TO COME – We always and always do it when we are doing a thing which doesn’t fancy us that much or we are feeling lazy to do that work and we wait for a friend or a family member to help us with that. But that doesn’t always happen and due to this, we waste our whole day.
- WHEN WE OVERESTIMATE OR UNDERESTIMATE THINGS– We might overestimate or underestimate many things while doing our work like we often do while doing some assignments or any other work and this wrong evaluation of time leave us demotivated and then causes PROCRASTINATION.
- DEPRESSION– I think this point is very obvious and almost everyone living on this planet has suffered through it, when we are depressed, our heads are filled with hopelessness, helplessness, and a lack of energy to do things because we think that our work won’t matter or we don’t matter and these things prevent us from doing work on time. So much so that sometimes, this can even lead to waste of our entire day.
I think I have covered some major causes of PROCRASTINATION. Now let’s discuss some points and tips on how to stop it –
End procrastination techniques –
Now, I am going to discuss all the possible solutions, according to me, which can eliminate or at least help in cut-shorting your procrastination to a great extent –
- Promise yourself a reward after completing a certain task. This helps a lot, believe me. When you set a reward for completing a task, you will feel like completing that with your utmost efficiency. And then enjoy that reward of yours. This reward can motivate you to start working. Now, this reward can be anything. It could be your favorite mobile game break for 15 minutes or having your favorite secret food in the fridge which you eat only on secret occasions.
- Get rid of negative thoughts or fear of failure. These are the thoughts that will always outweigh your motivation to do something. As you will never start working towards that thing of yours because of these thoughts. Therefore, make sure that you have no negativity in your mind otherwise you will always end up procrastinating.
- Complete all your work on the day it is assigned or given. If you will start doing this, then I don’t think you will have any reason to end up procrastinating the other day when you would start your “work”. This is because you would have already done it. (NOTE: Don’t procrastinate on the day you do your work. This “day” is the day on which the work has been given to you.)
- Make a ‘TO-DO LIST’ and commit to it. Now, this is a trick that can work for some people whereas becoming just a list attached to a corner of your house that you never see. So, make sure that when you make it, follow it very holistically. Like, putting a check after doing every task. Because of this trick, we can bring time management into our life. And according to research, having time-management in our life can significantly reduce or eliminate procrastination. Although, if you still don’t want to make such a list then don’t worry. Because many people don’t have a ‘to-do list’ but they still don’t procrastinate.
