Bananas!!!!! The favourite food of our primates ( monkeys and apes). Today we will discuss whether these “favourite food” of our primates really help in weight loss or not.
Before digging our answer, I think we must firstly understand the nutrients we get from eating one banana. 1 medium riped banana contains –
- 0g fat
- 1g protein
- 28g carbohydrate
- 15g sugar
- 3g fiber
- 400mg pottasium
As of macro-nutrients, one banana contains Vitamin B6, fiber, pottasium, magnesium, Vtamin C, manganese. It also contains many antioxidants like dopamine and catechin
And this one banana gives us around 110 calories. Out of which 90% are carbs and out of these carbs, a large chunk of them are naturally-occuring sugars.
Now, that we fully understand our good ol’ bananas, let’s jump into our question again !
How do bananas become “heroes”?
Well, as you may have noticed ,from the nutrient description of banana I gave, that bananas have good amount of fibre (3g is big). And because of this, bananas emerge as our mightiest warriors in our journey for weight loss.
Didn’t understand? No worries, I haven’t elaborated much on it yet.
See, we all know the fact that fibres take a long time to digest in our tummies. So, when someone asks you for dessert after eating a high-fiber meal and you deny it, it’s becuase your stomach can’t handle overload as it already has to digest a food which takes a lot of time to digest.
As a result of this fibre, our body doesn’t likes to consume more food after eating some fibre-rich food or meal. And therefore, we consume less calories and also we don’t feel hungry for those calories we are not consuming after eating fiber-rich food. And as we do not consume these extra calories becuase of fibers, we tend to remain on maintenance calories or calorie deficit. And thus, we tend to lose weight in the long term. Remeber this would work only if you eat banana throughout your weight loss journey.
But don’t go anywhere because-
There is a big ‘BUT’ !!!
And this ‘but’ is that if you think, you can lose weight by only eating bananas becuase of the science I explained above .
If you think like this, you will land no-where. Weight loss isn’t just eating some super-food and be like- ” Let it do its work. I wil do nothing more.” It’s much more than that, you have to calculate your calories consumed in the whole day, check your water consumption, get enough sleep and what not if you dream to have a body physique like Mr.Olympia or any fitness youtuber or your favourite actor.
Also, there is no significant research done on the relation between weight loss and bananas. Although it has been done on fibres(which is found in rich quantity in banana) and weight loss. They are connected.
But guys you have to understand that there is no superfood for weight-loss. And that includes bananas. It depends on you whether you consume bananas wisely or be this guy who thinks- ” Let it(banana or any other super-food misinterpreted as the weight loss food) do its work. I wil do nothing more.” Please don’t be this guy, it’s a request.
